cowboy up a little. Believe me, my distaste for the character of Kim Bauer can be fairly irrational, it just is. She's just too whinney.
However, I cannot forgive the "chase's fake baby" storyline. that was just a complete and utter ballsup

cowboy up a little. Believe me, my distaste for the character of Kim Bauer can be fairly irrational, it just is. She's just too whinney. Irrational??? Ah, you should have said! Irrational, I understand. What I do have a problem with is (forgive me Sam and hear me out) is that Kim can't stand up to Jack. Sam put it well, Jack's the man. Because lots of people stand up to Jack: George Mason, Chase, Bill, Tony. That's OK. In fact we love it when there's a good conflict. But Kim stands up to Jack and she gets pilloried by fans. Why? What do George, Chase, Bill and Tony have that she doesn't? Testicles. Audrey also became unpopular when she chose her sick husband over Jack, and Teri became very unpopular over the amnesia episode. And what did we discover then? She dared to look at another man. If you're still with me Sam, I'll explain a bit clearer what I mean. It's got to do with the stereotyping of women in fiction, and in real life. Hollywood is a guilty as anyone. Men get to have rounded characters. They can be flawed, mean well but be a bit selfish, be altruistic, but have a weakness for sex, whatever. Women, however, tend to fall into one of two camps: good and bad. Good women don't think for themselves. Good women accept the decisions their menfolk make for them. Either father or sexual partner. They are sexually passive. The women who take control of their own lives, who dare to make their own decisions, are bad women. Bad women like Nina and Sherry. (There is a 3rd category, unhinged woman - Martha Logan, but lets just leave her just now). So that, Sam, is why I sigh every time someone says 'I hate Kim.' The writers actually dared to break the stereotype, just a little bit, and the fans hate them for it. You don't need to agree with me, and you don't need to like Kim. I just want you to think a little bit about what is going on inside your head when you say 'Jack's the man'. Here ends today's lesson on sexual politics!

There's something that amazes me about Smitten. She has the ability to make huge long posts and I can follow every single word. I try that and it's just a ramble! I see where you're coming from Smitten, but I still dislike Kim

christ, it has nothing to do with the fact she's a woman. I'm sick and tired of being called a chauvinist just because I don't like certain "strong' female representations. I'm not saying you think that, but there are quite a few generalizations made in situations such as these. Take, for instance the character of Lara Croft. She's highly intelligent, strong, capable, strong willed, but because she's good looking she's written off as a flusie. I just don't like the character of Kim. Sure, she has some shining points, but most of the time I see her as a hinderance, which, I suppose is one of her purposes. She's the anchor to Jack. She's the one who brings out the humanity in him. That being said, I generally don't like her the same reason I didn't like Chase.
Too much bitching.
I think I'm the only guy that went BOOYAH when jack cut his hand off
PS you should know that I am wishywashy when it comes to 24, I back track and reverse opinions often enough. In hindsight, I don't hate kim, I just find her to be really really annoying. Although not like Chloe who is also annoying, but in a good way.

^ No one said your were a chauvanist mate.
Unless I interpreted smitten's post the wrong way, I think she said that it was partly the writers fault for breaking tradition/stereotype.
I agree with you about Lara Croft and Kim. Disagree with you about Chase, I liked him and wished he could have stayed longer.

I'm not glad that whenever they do that, the fans slate the characters. And I actually agree with Evil that she's pretty annoying at times - it's just what the plot requires.

I never said anybody said that, you just struck a chord with me. I got into a situation the other day when similar arguements were thrown at me, not rightfully so, and it brought up memories

Hey Evil! I think we *do* understand each other here. Really - you know I was not throwing arguments at you, or calling you a male anything. Dont you? Not responsible for your other situation, but, hey, if you want to offload in a thread, go ahead. As for me, I also have an opinion, which I have expressed here, about the flak that Kim gets. I generally manage to express my opinions in a non-offensive way. But I suppose being accused of being a male chauvanist is probably an occupational hazard for any man - not a problem Ive ever encountered. Dont mean to belittle your experiences.

btw
Kim's best scene ever is when she's hitchhiking and pulls the gun on the asshole that tries to get out of his car.
that's the most respect her character ever got from me.
